For banks, insurers and NBFCs

In Pragya Prasun & Amar Jain v Union of India (2025 INSC 599, 30 April 2025) the Supreme Court held that digital access is part of the right to life and issued binding directions to RBI, SEBI, IRDAI, PFRDA, DoT and TRAI on accessible KYC and customer processes. SEBI's 2025 accessibility circular requires regulated entities to comply with RPwD ss.40, 42 and 46. For customers with intellectual and developmental disabilities, “accessible” means Easy Read.

The directions require processes that customers with disabilities can actually use — not only code that passes a scanner. A validated Easy Read document is the auditable record that a customer with IDD could understand what they signed.
